The world of Lepidoptera research suffered a recent loss with the passing of Gaden Robinson.
The Natural History Museum, London, where he worked for 35 years, has posted a lengthy obituary
I had the pleasure to meet Gaden on several of my visits to the BMNH between 1994 and 2002 whilst researching the Hong Kong moth fauna and he was always most helpful in pointing me towards a particular genus or species within the Tineoidea, even on friday afternoons after his lunch at a nearby pub. His knowledge of the South-east Asian Microlepidoptera was vast; the book he co-authored with Kevin Tuck and Mike Shaffer (who also sadly passed away in March this year) is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the knowledge shared between them. My last correspondence with him (a series of emails over a few days in late April regarding species in the genus Dasyses [Tineidae: Hapsiferinae]) showed little sign of his humour being affected by his failing health. Even though he was prodigious in his published work, there must have been much knowledge still untapped that has been lost with his passing so soon after his official retirement. He will be sorely missed.
